Lakes in Ladakh


 Renowned for its remote mountain beauty and well balanced traditional culture, Ladakh is one of the most sparsely populated regions in India. - Pangong Tso 
Being the most famous lake in Leh Ladakh is situated at a height of 4350 metres. Through the world’s 3rd highest motorable mountain pass Chang La Pass, one can reach this beautiful lake in about a 5-hour drive from Leh. A number of skiers and ice skaters from different parts of the world participate in the Gala festival held here every year.

Best time to visit: June to September


- Tso Moriri Lake
The largest lake in the region, Tso Moriri is situated at an altitude of 15,075 feet. With a variety of bird species found here, the lake was declared as a wetland of international importance in the year 2003.
The two main routes to reach this place are Moore Plains and Changthang Valley.

Best time to visit: May to August and early September


- Kyun Tso and Ryul Tso
Know as the twin lakes in Leh Ladakh, they are situated at an elevation of 5000 meters above the sea level, the deep blue surface of this lake shimmers as the says fall on it.

- Chagar Tso
On your way to Pangong Lake, come across another magnificent natural art of Chagar Tso. Its heaven on Earth for bird lovers. Find a vast variety of migratory birds at this particular place. Chagar Tso is known for its splendour beauty.

Best time to visit: June to September

- Tso Kar Lake
Connected by a small stream, Tso Kar is an art of nature. Its also a twin lake wherein the western part of it is salty and eastern part is full of freshwater.

Best time to visit: May to August

- Yarab Tso Lake
Located at a distance from the Nubra Valley, Yara Tso Lake is a splendid lake in Ladakh region. It is known to be a sacred place and the crystal clear water of this lake offers a barren surrounding.

Best time to visit: June to September
